Hobcaw Point

Hobcaw Point is a more established community of 371 homes on larger lots. Located off of Mathis Ferry Road, this community backs up to the Wando River. Homes in this subdivision have been built over the years, starting in 1952 and have views of the water, marsh and/or grand oak trees. Select lots have docks.

The subdivision has a boat ramp, docks, Olympic-size pool and children’s playground. There is also a private marina which is accessed via the neighborhood. This is a premier subdivision.

All right, so we just left MOLASSES CREEK and we’re headed up the same street MOLASSES CREEK is on and into HOBCAW POINT. HOBCAW POINT is a neighborhood similar to MOLASSES CREEK. I don’t think this; as we ride back through here, it’s not as upscale as MOLASSES CREEK. There are a few more homes back here and the price point is just a tad less. You are seeing a lot of people come in and buy these older homes; these ranch homes and redo them, because again, the proximity to Charleston is less than five minutes from being at the bridge to downtown. Again, good tree coverage. Some of the houses sit on, at least, a half an acre lot. There is in the back of the neighborhood, there is the Hobcaw Yacht Club that we’re coming to, in a second. Homes back here range anywhere from 2000 square feet to, probably 4000-5000 square feet. And there are some homes that have true deep water docks, which means you have at least six feet of water at low tide. Those homes are in the back as we head back here. This would be a neighborhood if you had a budget of at least a half a million dollars, I would say, and you want to be close to Charleston, I would consider HOBCAW or some of the other neighborhoods we’ve ridden through that are off of Mathis Ferry Road. We’ve driven to the back of HOBCAW and you can see as we’re spinning through here, out in the distance is the Wando River and the bridge to DANIEL ISLAND. HOBCAW is a swim and boating club and sits on the banks of the Wando River. It’s been around for a long time. It’s been around, I would guess, since the 1970’s. And it’s a fairly affluent crowd that goes here. You’re looking at the facade of the building and thinking it isn’t that nice, but this is a pretty good club to belong to. It’s not overly expensive. It’s just a swimming and boat club. So, if you live off of Mathis Ferry Road and you live in a neighborhood that doesn’t have any amenities and your kids need a pool and you want a boat, HOBCAW is a really good spot to consider. That puts a wrap on what we’re going to do in HOBCAW today. HOBCAW POINT is in Mt. Pleasant SC, off of Mathis Ferry Road and only minutes from downtown Charleston.
