Mt. Pleasant SC Golf: Patriots Point
on November 27th, 2011 at 2:32 pmInterested in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, golf or area Charleston country clubs? View this video interview with Nick Short, general manager of Patriots Point Golf Course to learn more about one of Mount Pleasant’s best golf courses. Patriot’s Point is a links style golf course that overlooks the historic Charleston Harbor and is centrally located to other historic attractions. It is situated just over the Ravenel Bridge from downtown Charleston and should be at the top of your list of golf courses to visit in the Charleston / Mt. Pleasant area.
Patriots Point Links opened in 1980. It has a links style layout in which many of the holes parallel each other, going down and back. Golfers can choose from four sets of tee-boxes at the user-friendly golf course. The farthest tee boxes play about 7,000 yards. Most guests play the white tees, or member tees, which play about 6,500 yards. Because it is right on the harbor, Patriots Point can be windy at times, but it is not a difficult course. In fact, the course is very popular with female golfers.
Another unique detail about Patriots Point is that it is the only golf course in Mount Pleasant with a fully lit driving range. Guests are welcome to hit balls until 9:00 or 10:00 p.m.! The club is open 364 days a year, closing only for Christmas. It is a very popular wedding venue and hosts about 40 to 50 weddings a year. Catering is done by RiverTowne Country Club, the sister course of Patriots Point.
The Mount Pleasant, SC, Patriots Point golf course offers two different types of annual memberships: the Weekday Pass offers unlimited play Monday through Thursday and the Full Pass is good for unlimited play Monday through Sunday. Both types of memberships offer tee times two weeks in advance (instead of the one week given to the general public), provide access to the lighted driving range, qualify holders to play in Member Tournaments and discounted rates at Rivertowne Country Club.
Ever wonder where the logo for Patriots Point originated? His name is Sparky the Marlin, and this informative video details his background as well.
