Mt. Pleasant’s Fall Walk, Run and Bike Schedule

The temperature has dropped, the leaves are about to — and the gorgeous Lowcountry sun feels even better with the slight nip in the air. With the arrival of fall come plenty of opportunities to enjoy the cooler weather in Mount Pleasant — while supporting charitable causes. Here’s a listing of 2011 fall races scheduled over the next couple of weeks.
What: Second Annual Trot for Tots 5K Run / Walk
When: Saturday, October 29, 2011
Time: 5K starts at 8:30 a.m.; Kids’ Fun Run starts at 9:00 a.m.
Where: Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital campus (3500 Highway 17 North, Mount Pleasant)
About: There will be a children’s Halloween costume contest, face painting and other family-friendly activities. Steel Petals will be performing live music on race day.
Benefits: Race proceeds will provide car seats for infants in need

What: Fourth Annual Jerry Zucker Ride for Hope 100K and 30-mile bicycle races
When: Sunday, October 30, 2011
Time: 8:00 a.m.–12:00p.m. Events include: 100k Ride (starts at 8:00 a.m.), 30 mile Ride (starts at 8:30 a.m.), Kids/Family Ride (starts at 9:00 a.m.)
Where: Mt. Pleasant Recreation Department Park West Recreation Complex (1251 Park West
Boulevard, Mt. Pleasant)
About: Lunch will be provided by Carraba’s. The course is a flat lollipop that covers scenic country roads.

What: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Light the Night Walk
When: Thursday, November 3, 2011
Time: 7:00–8:00 p.m.
Where: Mt. Pleasant Waterfront Park (99 Harry M. Hallman Jr. Boulevard, Mt. Pleasant)
About: Walkers carry illuminated balloons and enjoy food and refreshments after the walk.
Benefits: Funds raised benefit blood cancer research, educational materials, local family support groups, peer-to-peer counseling and other assistance programs

What: Capers Island ECOrun 5K and 10K Beach Runs / Walks
When: Sunday, November 6, 2011
Time: Ferry leaves Isle of Palms Marina (80 41st Ave, Isle of Palms) at 7:00 a.m.; participants are
asked to arrive by 6:30 a.m.
Where: Capers Island
About: Racecourse includes breath-taking views of the famous “Bone Yard” Beach on the uninhabited
Capers Island; race encourages environmental consciousness, and wildlife sightings on the pristine island are
common during the event.
Benefits: Funds raised benefit Charleston Chef’s Feed the Need, which provides food to Lowcountry hungry

What: First Annual Veteran’s Day 5K Run for the Yorktown
When: Saturday, November 12, 2011
Time: 8:00 a.m.
Where: Patriot’s Point parking lot (40 Patriots Point Road, Mt. Pleasant)
About: Race opens with the signing of the National Anthem; awards ceremony and post-run party will be held on the flight deck of the USS Yorktown to include medals, refreshments and live music.
Benefits: Funds raised benefit youth education programs on board the USS Yorktown

What: Twelfth Annual Old Village Harbor Run

Time: 8:30 a.m.
Where: Alhambra Hall (131 Middle Street, Mt. Pleasant)
About: This is a pet-friendly event; there will be raffles after the race.

About: This is a holiday themed race. Participants are encouraged to wear a holiday costume and / or jingle bells. There will also be a Kids’ Run
