National builders such as Centex, Lennar, and David Weekley as well as custom builders all contributed to the development of Park West. The masterfully planned community of 1700 acres is practically self-sufficient and began in 1997. For example, there is a Publix (grocery store), daycare facility, medical offices, fitness center, and retail facilities, veterinarian, elementary and middle school, and the Mount Pleasant Recreation Facility is all located within walking and biking distance.

The 59-acre Recreation Facility features a softball, baseball, football and soccer field. They also have an in and out-door swimming pool.

However, Park West has its own amenities as well including two community swimming pools, six lighted tennis courts, a summer kitchen, club house, playground and parks.
